- Welcome to Cafe Detente
de-tente (noun) the easing of hostility or strained relations.
Be curious, not judgmental. – Walt Whitman
Located at the end of Détente Road in Youngsville, Louisiana, Café Détente is a place and platform for voice, talent, experience, and wisdom to be shared by diverse groups of free thinkers and open-minded people to advance conversation that enriches us all, making the world a better place.
The Café is nestled on two acres next to a pond in a live oak grove full of fruit trees, berries, vegetables, and botanical plants along with wild birds, Key West chickens, donkeys, and pets. The Café has big windows, French doors, a fireplace, and deck-chair-filled porches. Secluded and full of life, Café Détente is the perfect spot to uplift diverse voices and promote service.
Café Détente is not open to the public with waitstaff and menus. Instead, it’s more of a place to hold events of common interest: come drink delicious coffee, listen to great musicians, and eat phenomenal food from talented guest chefs.
We are located at 1733 Détente Road Youngsville, LA.

How does the Café work?
The Café Detente website will feature events on the bulletin board where Coffee House Members (CHMs) can sign up. Each event will be hosted by a guest Brewer. The guest Brewer and their team will facilitate, organize, lead discussions, and schedule the event with the selected group of interested Coffee House Members. A fabulous host/hostess will contact all invited members for instructions and expectations. The group will be given the profiles of all other members attending.
Examples of event topics:
- Italian Wine Tasting
- Story Tellers
- Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
- History Speakers
- Bougie Picnics
- Short Courses
- Empowering Women
- Socrates Night
- Poker Night
- Cooking Class
- Dog Play Date
- Musician on a Stool
- Syrup Making
- Spirits with the Spirits
Brewers
When enough Coffee House Members are signed up for a posted event, a date will be set. All invited participants will be notified and put into a private group chat to communicate for the event. The Brewer (event leader) will make an itinerary, and the group of members will be contacted with details and expectations. The Café Detente staff will assist the Brewer with the agenda to make sure the event goes smoothly. For example, if Brewer Antonio (from Cortona, Italy) has enough Coffee House Members sign up for his Italian wine tasting post, then Brewer Antonio will set up an evening for twenty or so people to come to Café Detente to learn about Italian wine while tasting whatever Antonio chooses to bring. Antonio can also prepare an authentic Italian meal, tell stories about how delightful it was to grow up in Cortona, and answer questions about vacationing in Italy.
The Brewer will choose the size of the group and send out invitations from the list of interested members. The logistics of the event and what will be provided will determine the cost per person. Most events will offer the members to request a plus one to make the event more comfortable. If an event is overbooked, another event may be scheduled and offered to the remaining interested members.
The events are not first come first serve. The Café Detente director will encourage the Brewer and team to make sure the group assembled is as diverse as possible to create robust conversations and experiences.
Café Detente will be scouting for talented and experienced folks who are interested in being a Brewer. Coffee House Members are encouraged to nominate someone to be a Brewer to share a talent or to teach a group about a lost trade, art, hobby, or cultural tradition.
Other volunteer positions will be posted for members to sign up for training. Brewer Coordinator, Podcast Agent, Fabulous Hosts and Baristas are needed! Sign up by clicking on events.
So many cool people to meet, so little time.
Groups
Click on Groups to join in on topics of discussion and interest. High levels of interest on these discussion boards will lead to more events being scheduled for those topics. The members will drive the agenda of the Cafe.
True Brew Bobcast
True Brew is the name of the Café Detente podcast, and the Café will have an equipped podcast room that will be set up for audio and video recordings to be posted on our website. True Brew podcasts are arranged exactly like the event coordination described above. However, in this case, the brewer will be the podcast host.
If you know someone who would be a great podcast host and would like to discuss interesting things with guests, let’s talk about setting up your show. For example, if CHM Casey wants to do a podcast called Casey’s Fantasy where he talks about fantasy football, then Café Detente will set up a few dates to get Casey going. If Casey’s podcast takes off and members love it, more slots will be allocated.
Spirit
The spirit of Café Detente is to provide a platform for different groups of Coffee House Members to enjoy the presence of open-minded people of all cultures, ages, and personalities. One Brewer may have an event and talk about ways to better educate children while the next may talk about Bourbon. One Brewer may talk about rebuilt cars, old guitars, or how we get to Mars while the next may show us how to cook a dish, catch a fish, or whatever they wish!
Fair play
There are many places on social media where strong opinions, political views, trolls, haters, and toxic commentators roam free. Café Detente is the exact opposite of those things. The Café asks everyone to check their religion and politics at the door.
The Cafe Detente model is an experiment to attract people who are looking for a place to escape from the seemingly manipulative world of anxiety-fueled medias, guarded ideals, and identity politics. Back to the simplicity and curious discovery of people in our community who are willing to teach and learn from each other with respect, emotional intelligence, and common-sense interaction.
